Do not... I repeat... Do NOT take your loved one to this horrendous facility. My father was brought here after a long stay in the hospital to regain some of his strength back in his legs. He is elderly and there's a lot of things he can't do by himself at the moment. Now, to explain why you should never bring anyone that you care about here. They are completely inept top to bottom. The absolute gross negligence that took place still has me fuming as I'm typing this. My father is on anti-rejection drugs due to a successful liver transplant he had in the past. Do not... This is a crucial, life saving medication that has to be taken exactly 4 times a week. These (I'm not going to say what I'm really thinking) CLOWNS gave him 4 doses of his anti-rejection drug per DAY! That's criminal levels of neglect! They are directly responsible for overdosing my dad. He left the facility in an ambulance in a state of delirium, lethargy, and the inability to communicate, and he had to be taken back to the hospital (where he still is recovering) because of THEIR disgusting oversight. Then, they had the AUDACITY to try and charge my sister a fee for the 911 call to bring in EMS, which all of this stems from THEIR ineptitude! The only reason this has 1 star is because there's no way for me to give a 0! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! I hope people lose their jobs because of this before they actually kill someone (hoping they haven't already).
Shelby Nursing is top notch! If I suggest a rehab in the Macomb area typically I choose Shelby Nursing. The care staff is attentive and caring. Most importantly the rehab staff is tenured , happy and focused on getting patients home to their families stronger and safely. If you need skilled nursing and rehabilitation choose this facility.
If it was possible to give a zero star rating, I would. This place is awful. Physical therapy was good, but nothing else. The nurses and aides do not care about the patients. You will hear a lot of, "not my job" responses. Nobody knows what's going with patient care. Your loved one will sit soiled for hours. Staff does not respond to the call light.
From my experience, throughout my life my mother has been to several facilities and this particular facility I would recommend with 5 stars. My mother has never been treated with such grace, warmth and professionalism. Tammie Hauss is the admissions / concierge. She came to speak with us and made us feel much more at ease with her warm and genuine personality. She asked me all the right questions regarding my mother’s stay and happiness. My mother has been at other facilities before but I have never experienced such great customer care. She took care of all the details and made sure my mother was always comfortable and taken care of. My mother said she felt like she was at home. I thought Tammie might have been an owner with her approach to handling my reservations. She is very knowledge and she addressed all of my concerns. My mother and I are very satisfied and I hope Tammie is able to teach other employees her way of customer care. I am genuinely excited to not just visit my mother but also to see her. I recommend this facility to anyone looking for a rehab.
Overall the staff was very good. Some nurses and aides were exceptional, especially Nautica and Tamera. PT was good. The facility was extremely clean. I would definitely reccommend Shelby Health and Rehab!
My cousin recently stayed at Shelby and I can't say enough nice things about this place. The nurses, aides, and everyone in the building treated him with dignity and respect from the beginning of his stay until he was discharged. I would especially like to thank Howard and Cynthia for being extra helpful. Thank you!
William LaRosa i would like to give a 5 star rating to the best nurse and nurse supervisor nurse Tiffany mason and nurse supervisor Dee they both deserve 10 stars but i can only give them 5 star's
This place is woefully understaffed! Most of the staff I met while my mother was there were capable and as attentive as they could possibly be under the circumstances. I brought up issues to the head of nursing, social workers, the head of PT and the finance person, all of whom admitted that they are seriously understaffed. I was told to call the Director Eric which I did 6 days in a row starting on March 26th and never received a return call. His message is “ hi this is Eric Checkley, sorry I couldn’t come to the phone. I will be out of the office from March 9th to March 16th if you need help call the facility and ask for the assistsnt director Adam Lathrop”. When you call again and ask for Adam they tell you Adam doesn’t have an office or a phone and they put you through to Eric again. I once left a message that his voicemail is out of date and that he might want to update it. I called it today (April 19th) the message has not changed. If you are looking for a facility for a loved one this is a good place if they don’t have any existing medical issues, if they do this place is not the place to get the attention they need. If they are bed ridden and are there to rehab legs, as long as they are ok wearing diapers and waiting 10 minutes to 4 hours for someone to bring them a bedpan theyl’ll be ok. On my mothers last day she was so excited to leave she forgot to lock the wheelchair and when she tried to sit, it rolled away and she fell on her behind and hit her head. She texted me to say she fell and hurt herself and needed to stay. By the time I got there 2 attendants had come in and when told of the fall they checked her for marks and evidence of falling and upon finding nothing assumed she was lying and left the room. Needless to say we checked out. The attached photo was taken after her roommate pushed the call button and waited 20 minutes and no one came. Notice the light outside the room in the background. The person at the desk remained there while a duty nurse completed working with a patient in one of the other rooms then spent about 20 minutes getting out discharge papers ready. Her roommate was still waiting.as we walked away and the person at the desk was still sitting there. The facility is a 1 star, the staff deserve better than Eric!
