Our mom has been at The Brook for several years! This was a great place for Independent living and then in assisted living! She was very happy here and the staff was great ! Mom was born and raised in Portland so knew lots of people there ! It’s great having a facility like this in your home town ! Thank you for all you did for mom ! I will miss you Nicole , you are great to work with !
My 87-year-old father has been a resident for about a year. The staff is very friendly and caring, and the facility is well kept and managed. I feel very comfortable that he is in a safe place that affords him freedom to come and go as he pleases.
Jen was awesome as well as Nikki and the rest of the staff. Every time I call about my mom, they know exactly what’s going on. Thank you for taking such good care of all the areas that were needed.
5 for all, except food. I prepare my own food in my apartment. Due to food restrictions I can not eat some of the food on the menu. However, the Thanksgiving Day and Easter Sunday meals were great, 5+. Yes, I would recommend this community to other families ! I especially like the fact that I am able to keep my dog. I have over 40 new friends to visit with on a daily basis.
This place is amazing, the staff, residents and atmosphere is great and I’m blessed to have been given the chance to experience a well managed business. The moment you walk into The Brook of Portland, someone is willing to help you even if they’re flooded in things to do. Everyone is friendly and welcomes anyone with open arms. The manager is always willing to help and discuss anything to manage and make sure all of the residents are well taken care of, happy and healthy. All of the staff always have a smile on their face and with the most respect and duty, do their best and push past that to assure the residents are well maintained, Fed, in and out of bed when needed and laughing throughout the day, trying to make this experience the best they could have asked for. I would recommend this place if you have a relative that needs to be placed into a retirement home.
I’ve worked for The Brook for the last 4 months and I couldn’t be more grateful for the bonds I’ve built with my residents, coworkers & management. Jennifer, the building manager, has always accommodated to the employees real-life emergencies as best as possible, even working the office all day to turn around and work the floor on our second or midnight shift if a coworker has a call out. She’s always on top of our resident concerns, answering our calls and questions 24/7, and coming in to help anytime she’s needed & available. Taking over activities, spending extra time & money to make holidays & events extra special for our residents, community and employees. Being a single mom, I appreciate her always having the schedule posted for the entire month so I can schedule my appointments & babysitters accordingly. I’m thankful for the opportunities I’ve come across already in the time I’ve worked here , the chances to grow farther and the relationships I will cherish for a lifetime
They’ve been making my girlfriend work absolutely ridiculous hours. The company promised her no weekends. She has to work weekends and holidays. This is a tremendous toll on our family. The company has been terrible at retaining employees, losing people left and right. I’ve heard that the manager is an alcoholic and frequently comes in with hangovers. It doesn’t help that they’re mandating employees to cover shifts. Because people are quitting outright. They used to have two people Residence in the facilities, but now there’s only one per shift. On top of that, they made my girlfriend come in while everyone else had Covid, even though our one-year-old son has RSV. I just feel like it’s very missed managed. They do not let people work full-time because that they get sick time off! My girlfriend doesn’t know her schedule until two days before the day she has to come in so every single day she has to find out her schedule. It is an absolute show! I mean, they are direct care, workers bottom of the bar. I think they’re only like 12 or $13 an hour. Do you want less fast food wage taking care of your old folks? My girlfriend cares way too much. That’s why I’m writing this review because. She will never stop caring. Trying hard to get her to leave this position and go to another facility. It’s just hard for her. She has grown a great emotional bod with her clients. I mean, you have a pretty good bond if you Had to do what she has to do to take care of them!
The Brook of Portland has been a wonderful place for my 92-year old mother to live for the past two years. She is in a safe environment and has access to friends and social activities, which I think are the two most important things for seniors. My only concern is the frequent turnover of staff, including managers. It's a little disconcerting for Mom when the familiar faces disappear and are replaced with new ones. I have no concerns about the caliber of the staff---just wish that they would stay longer so that the residents could rely on them being around.
