Over the holidays I was able to visit my grandma at The Heartlands for the first time. Upon my arrival, I was pleased to see such a beautiful building and facilities, along with her cozy room. Over the holidays I was able to visit my grandma at The Heartlands for the first time. Upon my arrival, I was pleased to see such a beautiful building and facilities, along with her cozy room. The staff seemed very warm and caring too, which made me feel confident that my grandma was being well taken care of. As I expressed to my grandma that the place seemed very nice she immediately told me that the food is absolutely terrible. She informed me that her meals are always cold and sometimes she's not even sure of what she is eating. This absolutely broke my heart. I also heard the same food grievances from other residents and resident's family members. One family member of a resident told me that a bread stick was so hard it didn't even break when they hit it on the table! These residents deserve much better, the food should be pleasurable and palatable at the very least! I sincerely hope changes will be made in order to provide warm and enjoyable meals to these very deserving people!

For the amount of money a resident pays for the stay, a person would expect the food to be better. I've ate here twice and both times a special occasion Thanksgiving and Christmas. Both times the food was so terrible it could not be finished. Trust me it wasn't the size of the portion. That's another thing. The size of the portion is ridiculous. [fee removed] per plate. This is an absolute disgrace. I hope the board members will become residents soon only to find what a disappointing waste of hard earned money.

We visited my grandma and stayed to eat with her on Christmas. We were extremely disappointed to discover that the food served was both undercooked and served cold, not warm. We've heard this complaint from other family members and can confirm that this department needs improvement. When she first arrived from a facility in Cass City, this was not the case. Maybe there has been a change in services that we aren't aware of. Regardless, we are hopeful that a change/improvement can be expected soon. With the [fee removed] increase starting in 2025, this should be attainable.

My Mother is a Resident here at Heartlands. I just ate the Christmas meal, everything was good but the food was lukewarm too cold. My Mom came last summer and I have notice that the food is always lukewarm. Is there a way that the kitchen can improve in this area. With the price that the Residents pay per month please work on this.

I toured The Heartland. It was too new, and it didn't seem homey. I couldn't see my mother going there. They pretty much have everything but the furniture in the apartments. They have all the utilities. They have a small garage if you have a car. It was clean and everything seemed fine, but it was like going into a new subdivision, and it just didn't feel comfortable. There was really no shrubbery or trees, nothing around there, it was very plain. The staff who gave the tour seemed OK, but I think she was filling it in for the lady I was supposed to be seeing. She was fine, but she couldn't answer all my questions.

The food is all homemade and very good meals. You get to choose what you want to eat each day. The facility and the staff are all great. Very nice place. Lots of activities. My mom loves it there

My sister-in-law moved to The Heartlands. What I like best is they really worked with me. I had them over from Ohio to Michigan, and they were really very helpful in helping me understand what needs to happen, and how it needs to go. They were very upfront and direct about what they needed and it was really good. Usually, they do an initial assessment in person, but because she was in assisted living in Ohio, they did a Zoom call with her. I was impressed by their customer service. Her apartment is fairly new. The whole place is only two years old. It's great. I would call it about a room and a half. They have all kinds of things that they work with, what they need, and what they can do. They have a cook on site and she's the head of the kitchen. My sister-in-law has been very impressed with the food. They try to get you moving as much as you can. They're trying to get her as capable as she can be without pushing her too hard, so that's been good, too. She could eat all the food some days. So it's good food inside. They have an activity director there that is really active.

Love the atmosphere and staff are great!
