My experience with Friendship Village Rehab was by far the best I ever had. I would recommend their services. The results of my rehabilitation was phenomenal. The happy rehab therapists Chris, Ronsted Eric and Bethany helped with my recovery and I am appreciative of their services. The food was exceptional and the facilities were top notch.I am going to miss Mindy and Angela and Kelly who gave exceptional care as CNAs. I appreciated Holly's assistance in managing my discharge . If you chose Friendship Village rehab you will not be disappointed. .
Tons of issues from the onset. Inevitably had to pull my family member and seek care elsewhere due to lack of care. My family member was in this facility for a week and half and was not given any showers, only excuses to why it wasn’t being done. This caused infections and sores due to the lack of care creating an urgent care visit and more stress on my loved one when seeking rehab. I do not recommend Friendship Village and would caution other family members when making this choice .
Friendship Village earns their nearly five star review. My husband and I live far away, and my mother-in-law lives in FV independent living section. She recently has been ill, having difficulty eating, and having to go to both the ER and various medical appointments. The nurses have been diligent about keeping her safe and communicating with me. They have not just been responsive to my requests for help but more accurately proactive, communicating her condition to me and recommending steps to take, for example to send her to the ER when her doctor (OMG Bronson so bad) would not see her, which…

They have not just been responsive to my requests for help but more accurately proactive, communicating her condition to me and recommending steps to take, for example to send her to the ER when her doctor (OMG Bronson so bad) would not see her, which turned out to be the right call. Two medical professionals that I spoke with during this illness recognized the skill and dedication of the nurses at FV. The daily living staff are also great about arranging transportation to her appointments and finding quality staff to accompany her, and the front desk people are always helpful, whether printing up some documents (that I forgot to mail in) for my MIL to take to a med appointment or just reserving or cancelling hotel reservations. Also, if that weren't enough, the food and service in the cafe for breakfast is great. As my MIL recovers, I wonder what I would have done without this support, as we are not able to drop everything and travel to Kalamazoo. I am so grateful!
Friendship Village Kalamazoo has very long hallways and it's very much like a dorm. It's just long hallways with doors. The apartments are nice, and they aren't too big, but they're adequate. They're like two-bedrooms. We are very active and we do everything and that's hard to do in this place. We've got friends there. They have a pool, which is kind of nice. Like all pools, it has a lot of downtime. The problem with their place is they have close to 400 people and when it comes to suppertime, they have to go in shifts. If you don't do it in shifts, you just don't get food. They also have a courtyard. They have detached apartments and they're very nice and quite large, around 1700 to 2000 square feet, but if you want to go to eat, you have to walk to the dining room which is 500 yards away. They have a beautiful auditorium. If you have visitors, you can't park very close. You have to park about a block away in order to get in and that's inconvenient when it's snowing outside. They have garage parking, but you have to walk quite a ways to get to it. It's a very nice place. The food was good.
Just a few things. Just a few things for the public this is a 24 hour facility however ever, the front desk is closed on the weekends after 4pm, so the inside front door will be answered by security. Walking trails, eltronic charging stations are for residents resident familes and employees only not open to the public. Maintenance is gone on the weekend starting at 4pm Saturday so it will be just security answering the calls till Monday after 8am Concerts and other events held here are for residents and family only as well. Hope this helps. Great facility to work in .
I have two parents who in the last five years of their lives spent time in a total of six facilities such as FV both in FL and MI. This was by far the best place. The help and staff was the biggest reason. They love their guests and out of their way to keep us informed and to offer thoughtful choices on issues we were unfamiliar with. There is also plenty to do with a host of activities and outside talent. The walking paths are stunning and were our favorite activities with Dad. Sadly the opposite was very apparent at a few of the other facilities. Very poorly run with only profit in mind and staff that had little knowledge of working with older and physically challenged guests. Without a doubt both parents would have lived longer if it wasn’t for FALLS! But at FV it was as good of a trade off as possible. At others STAFF was completely negligent. Wish you all the best in your hard decision making. Mike.
Our parents moved into Independent Living in 2009 and what a wonderful experience they both had living the best life at FV in Kzoo! When we visited, we had to call ahead to “book a spot” ras they were so busy with all their activities!!! Mom passed in 2016 and Dad just past last summer in July. They loved all the friendships they made and the staff and
Friendship Village Kalamazoo provided a wonderful experience for my family member and our family. Twelve and one half years ago, our journey began in the Health Center, a move to Assisted Living , finishing in Independent Living for over seven years. When the time came, the moves were made in a more traditional path. At each step, we were so thankful to all of the employees of FVK for their guidance, support and care. At the end of life stage, the care and thoughtfulness continued for my family member and my family. The support came from every aspect of the FVK community. Many months have passed, I still recall employees from housekeepers, dining room staff, maintenance staff, caregivers, nurses on every shift and administrators who showed compassion to my family member and guidance to me.
