Halsted place is a family operated business. it's not the big company elder care like so many of the other places. the staff is way more constant than at the other places. highly recommend. it's not all new and just built, but I it's the people that matters, not the building.
Family-owned business where the first generation is now living here. Great staff, happy residents and plenty of interesting things to do. Embedded nursing staff here. Food is great also.
So happy with staff, apartment and everything! Our Mom never wanted to leave her home, but is very happy here and we feel very blessed.
Halsted place is a wonderful place for your senior parent to live. The directors are wonderful and caring. They go above and beyond to help you. The food is very good and there’s a menu you can order off of. My mom lived there 5 years and all the people working there from housekeeping to dining room to cook to receptionist to directors become family. During the pandemic they handled things wonderfully and had no cases of Covid. I can’t say enough about Hasted place
Run down, dingy, and lack of welcome in the facility. Dining room staff is very rude to residents and family members, especially who was said “supervisor”. Food was inedible and kitchen manger was very unprofessional and rude when asked to remake meal. Front office staff very snobby and not professional. Healthcare team and “owner” were also very rude and condescending. Would not recommend investing money into this community for loved one. Tour was rushed and questions not answered. Observed resident yelling for help and being ignored by healthcare stating “it’s normal” lazy staff across the board.
Visited a resident. Seemed like a pleasant place. Nice front reception area with comfortable seating and piano. Resident had a first floor 2 bedroom apartment which was comfortable and well laid out. They allow residents to have a dog or cat. Can not rate much more because short visit was spent in resident's apartment.
At first when we put my mother here 7 years ago, she was in early Alzheimers disease and of course it advanced but I spent a whole day with her and not one person came to check on her. I realize it's an assisted living and not skilled nursing but our family was told she could stay there until she passed away. That's fine but please check on her once in awhile. You just got her up, got her dressed, didn't comb her hair, and left her sitting either on the couch or her wheelchair and didn't come back until bedtime. Some how alot of her stuff has ended up missing like her own thick bathtowels, socks, PJ's, clothes, even new stuff we have gotten her. Very disappointing for the money we pay. The nurses are fantastic, even going out of their way for you. I think for the amount of money they charge management could do better.
My mother is comfortable at Halsted Place. She knows the surroundings. We're gonna just keep her there as long as possible. It's two floors and they have one- and two-bedroom apartments. She is in a one-bedroom, and it has a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a bedroom, and a walk-in closet in the bedroom. They have a community dining room where they serve two meals a day. The food is pretty good. They have lots of staff, and they're very friendly. During the main part of the COVID, they were pretty much locked down. You had to knock on the front door in order to come in. They would take your temperature and you'd use the hand sanitizer. They still require masks in the public areas. They have activities, exercise, and movies. It's a nice place. My mom doesn't really use the activities, but there is something new every day, and they advertise on a sign down by the lobby what's going on that particular day. They seem to have quite a few things going on. I have looked around at other places, and it's very reasonable compared to other places.
