My mother, age 101, has lived at Clark in independent living for 21 years. She recently moved to assisted living. The staff are caring, supportive, and kind. She has kept active with a variety of activities provided. In the early days at Clark, they gave very good care to my dad who had Alzheimer’s. After he passed, they were very attentive to my mom’s emotional needs. When it was time for me to move to a retirement community, it was a no brainer. Clark is not perfect, but it’s a wonderful and fun place to live.

You can’t do the speed limit over these speed bumps. Even at 2 miles an hour they try and destroy your car. If you want a stop sign there, why don’t you just put a stop sign there?

We toured Clark Retirement at Franklin. The facilities were very clean. The staff and all the residents were very welcoming. The item that I think hit home more than anything else was that it felt like any other apartment. This is a full apartment. This felt like a residence, like an apartment building, and like more so than any of the others, and that was a big thing. There's one lady that's been there 37 years, and we talked to her. We ran across maintenance people and all the others talked to them, and they were just very anxious to talk to us about the facility and their experiences…

It's got a bedroom and then a larger room, which has a living and full kitchen and bathroom and a walk-in closet. It has a full kitchen, it's not a kitchenette. It's a very nice dining room. You order off a menu just like you would in a restaurant. There's a meal allowance in the monthly fee for the facility.

Beware ... Care not included

My loved one was at Clark for 8 years. During that time, he entered clark with his wife but sadly she passed during their time there. He was moved to a few different floors due to his progressing needs while at Clark. Most recently, he had been on the memory care unit for over 2 years. He loved Clark and would always tell anyone who would listen “this is my home now!” Despite the lack of staffing and the slow response to call lights, as a family, we overlooked that because he was happy to be at Clark. We were totally caught off guard when called in for a family meeting in which we were told that we’d have to find different placement because Clark could no longer handle his needs. After he had been there for 8 years, was very happy, etc. it was just shocking to be told this. He is in great physical help, needed no assistance eating or toileting, but he’s forgetful as he’s 91 and has Alzheimer’s. We thought that he was in the perfect place to handle his needs. There are several other residents much more progressed in their diseases. Over the amount of time that he was at Clark, between him and his wife’s care, he has spent over a million dollars to be their resident, for it to end so abruptly like this. As a family, we had to remove him from Clark to provide him better care elsewhere. I would not wish this nightmare upon anybody, as he was being moved out several staff members were equally as shocked as we were and said that “he was always a joy.” This treatment of a resident is despicable and totally unforeseen when you think that you’ve found a safe and secure place for your elder.

Many unpleasant experiences and issues with care that wasn't provided.

Nothing but kudos for Clark and their staff. No matter the need, they are always ready-at-the-wait for my mother and step-dad and the facilities are prepared for every level of care for the retired. From the fantastic dining, to the woodshed, to the gym, to the mental health programs, Clark is just perfect (and I don't say that casually),

Mom-in-law will be moving to Clark at Franklin. We chose that place, because of the level of care and its vicinity to our home. We plan on visiting her a lot, so we didn't want to be driving across town. They offer rehab services right on site, which she will need, and they had very nice, clean, and very appealing facilities. The rooms were very efficient. A hospital bed was provided, a couple pieces of furniture, and we could decorate her room. We were pleased and satisfied with it. There's always a nurse on staff and she can have all of her doctors' appointments. They have a chapel right on site, so the residents, if they want, can go to church, which was important to us. The staff, starting from the event directors, nurses, and aides, were great.
