Villa Maria Retirement Community is old. When you drive up to the main entrance, it's very drab. When you go inside, the waiting room is just a very small cubicle, an old couch, and a chair. It's just not very appealing. The curb appeal is not good. I guess something positive is the length of time that the staff have been with the facility. The sales director has been there for 8 years and the activities director has been there for a long time, too. They have a very upbeat, active, and positive staff. It's just not very appealing. The curb appeal is not good. I guess something positive is the length of time that the staff have been with the facility. The sales director has been there for 8 years and the activities director has been there for a long time, too. They have a very upbeat, active, and positive staff. The people there also seem to like the staff. It's just that the building and the interior are old. They offer a wide variety of activities. They have two meals a day, which are breakfast and dinner. We happen to be Catholic, and they offer weekly mass there, which is a big positive, especially for my sister-in-law, who is older and doesn't drive anymore. They have services on campus, too, like if you need some assisted living or even memory care, they have resources right on campus for that. While the facility itself is set up for independent living, you have access on an a la carte basis, right onsite, which is very positive.

My mother-in-law moved to Villa Maria Retirement Community. It's very nice, spacious, with lots of flowers, and beautifully maintained ground. The staff is very helpful and always willing to answer questions. They have all kinds of activities. They have exercises twice a week. They have card playing. They have game playing. They have concerts. They have trips and anything that they can think of or they're willing to have someone organized. The dining area is beautiful. The stained glass windows give a very nice ambiance to the mealtime. The food is plentiful.

We visited a friend at Villa Maria Retirement Community in Grand Rapids. It's in their independent living and the atmosphere was good. It was all nice but too confining for me. It's an older building and I needed something more open. I couldn't live there because I needed more windows and since it's older, it didn't have that. Everybody seemed nice though and the staff was nice. We know some people that live there that's why we went to visit. They invited us to come back to try the food. They had very nice activities. They have bingo, and all kinds of places to sew and play cards. It's a very active community. Some of the facilities were just old and we didn't like their elevators because they were too crowded and small. I guess it's good for the money because it's one of the cheaper facilities that we know of.

I've moved into Villa Maria Retirement Community. It's a very friendly community, and it has a lot to offer. They have a good activity director. I can't say enough about it. The staff is very personable. They take care of all of our needs. The meals are very good. They have everything you can imagine. You can either participate or not participate. They encourage us to interact. I'm in a two-bedroom, and it's very spacious and well maintained. We have a library and a community room, where we do exercises. I'm very happy to be here.

My mother is happy at Villa Maria right now. It's independent living. They have a bus, activities, movies, and games. Almost everything is good. They do a free breakfast, and she loves that. Most of the staff are helpful. There's a library and a sunroom.

During power outages there is no generator to operate the following: emergency lights in the hallways do not work, many have dead batteries and there is no regular maintenance done to check them. pull cords in the bedrooms and bathrooms will not work during power outages. (emergency and fire) oxygen use may be in jeopardy if the user doesn't have a cell phone to contact their supplier for emergency refills. Because the facility is independent living, the management states that they are not responsible to provide emergency services for the residents. During power outages in the summer the heat can reach over 120 degrees in the residents' apartments. Winter can get very cold as well, during outages. The once beautiful gardens and water fountain have been neglected in the last few years. No water in the fountain and residents are responsible to care for the planters and gardens, if they want them to thrive. The availability of the facility's bus service has been greatly reduced leaving the burden of transportation on the residents. Thermostats were replaced a few years ago and have stumped both residents and maintenance personnel. The inability to program the 'new' thermostats had resulted in several lucky residents receiving the old ones back. We wish we would have known these things before moving in. Beware of slick advertising and outdated pretty pictures.

I don’t have anything good to say. They advertise a world class chef and the food is terrible. So you might think “ we’ll then it’s probably clean and we’ll kept “ unfortunately that is also not the case. The building needs repairs and the carpet is filthy. What a shame since the building has such a great history.

My experience with Villa Maria was good. The environment was very nice. I liked it. The staff was very nice and very knowledgeable. The dining setup was very nice. They have outings, cards, exercising, and places for art lessons. I'm considering it because I liked their location and I keep going back there.
